DRAINAGE RESEARCH CENRE (REDAC)
Perunding Pinang Sdn Bhd (PPSB) and the River Engineering & Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) are instituted under Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)’s umbrella, the two entities have an extensive history of collaborations specifically on consultancy works related to Urban Drainage & Stormwater Management, River Conservation & Rehabilitation and Water Quality Treatment.
REDAC has developed an ecologically sustainable solution to the flooding and pollution problems using the “control at source” approach known as Bio-Ecological Drainage Systems (BIOECODS) constructed at USM Engineering Campus, Penang. BIOECODS emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to environmental engineering and landscape architecture making it unique and innovative in the field of stormwater management and urban development.
REDAC has been active in research and consultancy projects on the specified field since 1997.
REDAC has received more than RM 20 million for the last ten years in the form of research grants and consultancy works.
REDAC offers research studies in specialized areas of Urban Drainage Management, Hydro Informatics, and Environmental Hydraulics Management.
REDAC has received national as well as international visitors and has also won various awards for its extensive research programs. REDAC is also involved in the preparation of Urban Stormwater Management Planning and Design Standard for Malaysia, and Second Edition Urban Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia.
Recent studies include River Sand Mining Capacity in Malaysia, Design Options of the Flood Mitigation Plan of River Muda, River Inventory and Monitoring Program (RIMP), Erosion and Sediment Control in Malaysia, Stormwater Management and Drainage Masterplan Study (Tanjung Malim, Kulim Hi-Tech Industrial Park, Tanah Merah).
MATERIALS TESTING SERVICES
PPSB also offers engineering testing services for construction/ building materials and building site testing through USM’s HBPTU (Housing Building and Planning Testing Unit). The service is applicable to all government agencies and private agencies associated with building infrastructure industries.
The lab was accredited under Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) meets the requirements of MS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 ‘General requirements for competence of testing and calibration laboratories’. This Malaysia Standards is identical with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This in-house testing capability complement our consultation practice in providing optimal service to our clients.
